| EVENT RULES
STAGE TANGO
Couples in this category each perform one tango to their
selected music. All entrants in this category will automatically
be accepted to participate in the Semi-finals
on Thursday, 24 April, 2008 at the City Recital Hall Angel Place in Sydney.
SALON TANGO
In this category qualifying rounds will be conducted at scheduled milongas held throughout capital and other cities in Australia from March to April 2008.
You and your partner gain the opportunity to dance three unrehearsed tangos, with a group of up to 10 couples. The selection panel will judge your ability to perform specific Salón steps. Please refer to the "Qualifying Rounds" page for the locations of milongas where you may
qualify.
Entry
The cost of entry and participation in the Australian Tango Championship for each category will be $50 per person.
Entry is open to couples of any nationality who can prove at least six months of residence within Australia and who are 18 years old as of the date of commencement of the Championship. [Additionally, applicants normally resident in regions nearest to Australia where a Regional Tango Championship is not being conducted are eligible to enter.]
Duplicate or more entries in the same category are not allowed. However, any competitor may enter in a different category with the same or a different partner.
Tango Championship
Contest Rules
The Tango Salón category
shall comprise three stages:
· Qualifying Round
· Semi-finals
· Finals.
In the Tango Salón
category, couples shall dance three times in groups,
with recorded or live music to be selected by the Judging
Panel.
Be sure you understand the Salon Tango Rules.
The Tango Stage category
shall comprise two stages:
· Semi-finals
· Finals
In the Tango Stage category, each couple shall dance
once, with music selected and provided by the couple
in CD format, for a period not exceeding four (4) minutes.
Since the Judging Panel shall evaluate the variety of
choreographies presented, it is recommended that competitiors use different choreographies for the Semi-finals and Finals of the
National Championship, although this point is not mandatory.

The Judging Panel
The Australian
Tango Championship Judging Panel, composed of at least
three members, and always made up of an odd number,
shall be appointed by the authorities of the World Tango Championship.
The Judging Panel shall be entitled to remove participants
from the competition in case of:
a) non-compliance
with regulatory provisions;
b) loss of ethics or an improper act that may tarnish the
Championship image or cause dislike by the audience
All decisions by the
Judging Panel are final. It is assumed that participants
have agreed to this condition when entering.
In case of doubt or
disagreement, the interested party shall not address
the Judging Panel directly but shall present the case
in writing in English to the Local Producer / Organising
Committee.
The Judging Panel
together with the Local Producer shall duly solve any
issue not contemplated in these regulations
and shall provide such clarifications or constructions
thereof as they may deem necessary.
In the event of a
tie or as the Judging Panel may determine, competitors
shall dance as many times as required, for the former
to be able to make a final decision; competitors cannot
refuse to dance.
Scores of each presentation
are drawn from the sum of points allocated by each Judge
on a 1- to- 10 point scale according to the format described
below.
The Judging Panel
shall select as many couples from the Qualifying Rounds
as they deem worthy to progress to the Semi-finals.
The Judging Panel
shall select couples from the Semi
Finals for the Salón and Stage divisions to progress to the finals in each Division.
The Judging Panel
shall select a winning couple of each category from
the Finals. Furthermore, they shall award prizes and
special mentions for the second and third place and
shall be entitled to award other mentions as they deem
suitable.
