2009 CHAMPIONSHIP JUDGES

We are pleased to announce our judges for the 2009 Australian Tango Championship:

INTERNATIONAL JUDGES - Ezequiel Farfaro and Alejandra Gutty.
NATIONAL JUDGES - Christian Drogo and Yamila Falcon

They are all highly-regarded dancers and teachers.

Ezequiel Farfaro

Originally from Buenos Aires, Ezequiel Farfaro has been traveling and teaching Argentine tango all of the world for over a decade. He has partnered with follows such as Milena Plebs, Lucia Mazer, and Eugenia Parrila. Many describe his dancing as organic, smooth, and dynamic; incorporating elements from contemporary dance and flamenco.

Alejandra Gutty

Alejandra is a dancer, choreographer and instructor. She has taught and participated in major festivals around the world. She has also given master classes and seminars in different cities of Argentina, Spain, Italy, Germany, Japan and USA. Alejandra has choreographed and performed the work of Raul Garello and DVD Horacio Ferrer "Dialogues bandoneón and poet."

Alejandra has participated in different shows in Argentina and abroad including: "Tango, the musical", "The Tango of Kabbalah" by Guillermina Quiroga, "Alma de Tango" in 45 cities in Japan and Taiwan led by Gloria and Eduardo Arquimbau, "Fracanapa Tango Dance " by Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne.

Since 2004 she has worked as part of the cast of "Forever Tango" by Luis Bravo in many of the main cities around the world.

Christian Drogo

Known for his unique style and innovative approach, Christian has taught, choreographed and performed across Australia and Overseas.

In 1995, Christian Drogo established Viva Dance & Entertainment Co to capture the passion expressed through Music and Dance evoked by the Latin Culture quickly becoming highly recognized as one of Australia's leading Latin American Dance Company and pioneer of the Tango Argentino movement in Australia.

In 1997, Christian established the Annual Viva Dance Tours. As an avid traveler, lover of world culture along with his bilingual abilities, Christian successfully coordinated and led tours of dance to his native Argentina and other countries in Latin America.

It is on these trips that Christian had the opportunity to study with well known Tango Instructors; his natural ability and training with some of the greatest Tango Masters from Argentina gave him the unique capacity to instill in his students with a deep feeling for the subtle nuances of Tango.

As well as an Instructor and Performer, Christian is an accomplished choreographer and promoter. His credits include in the training for character builder in cinema to Jacek Koman for his role in "Moulin Rouge", Choreography and personal trainer to Miranda Otto in the Australian feature film "Dead Letter Office", Choreography and also Stared in the short films "Amor" with Jean Pierre Mignon, "Takes two to Tango", television series "The secret Life of Us", personal tango training ad choreography to the crew of "Circus Oz", "Ballet Nacional Del Teatro America in Havana Cuba", "Satango" the devils tango… Australian Musical, as well as numerous other national television commercials and productions.

Christian has also given workshops, classes, and exhibitions all over Australia, New Zealand, Cuba and Argentina. His promotional work includes The First Australian Tango Festival, many International Tango Artists tours, Tangoz Congress and various others.

In 2003, Christian moved from its humble location of Viva Dance Studio into a new residence known as Viva Cabaret offering lovers of Performing Arts, World Music, dance and entertainment an exclusive new venture which embraces and celebrates the magic of Latin America producing, performing and directing till today thousands of events and productions.


Yamila Falcon

Yamila Falcon, born in Australia of Argentine parents, has always been exposed to the tradition of Tango. She commenced dancing in the form of figure skating at the age of 10. Deciding to follow her roots Yamila then studied Tango with the Sydney based Argentine dancers and teachers Luis Gomez and Karina Viegas. Participating in workshops and private lessons with many great Tango dancers such as Metin Yazir, Miguel Angel Zotto and Soledad Rivero, Gavito, Mora Godoy and Pablo Veron.

In 2002 Yamila travelled to Argentina to compete in Danzamerica, the 8th annual interamerican dance competition. Here Yamila and her partner, representing Australia, won a silver medal for their performance.

Whilst in Argentina Yamila performed in a number of Milongas (Tango clubs) such as Café Tortoni, the salon club Agusteo and Porteño y Bailarin. Yamila was also invited to perform at Teatro Nacional Cervantes and in various community events for PAMI - an aged pensioner association as well as many private functions. In her spare time Yamila participated in private lessons with Mora Godoy, Adolfo Colello and the legendary Gavito.

Travelling annually to Buenos Aires since 2002 Yamila has been exposed to a fantastic array of teachers such as Cecilia and Diego and El Pibe Sarandi, Julio Balmaceda, Roberto Herrera and in 2005 saw her performing with an Argentine based dancer Juan Pablo Del Greco at Tango Bar and one of Buenos Aires' most popular milongas "La Ideal" in which they were accompanied by the orchestra Los Reyes Del Tango. Yamila and Juan Pablo were also invited to perform at Tango Buenos Aires show under the direction of Gigi De Angelis' and her orchestra in Buenos Aires' Teatro Broadway, this show paid homage to Alfredo De Angelis.

Yamila has also held numerous successful workshops throughout the East coast of Australia. Throughout her career Yamila has participated in and organised many international, national and local events, private functions and stage productions.

Yamilla is currently the director of Tango Tinto
